WorkStart – changing lives!

One of our WorkStart students, Luca, started his course in 2015 and is excelling in his job at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital. When he began, he was volunteering as an administrator, doing office tasks such as scanning and putting data into the system. In 2016, after he left college, our Job Coaches encouraged him to apply for a Business Administration Apprenticeship, which he did. This was a 1 year course and after this, he was able to get a full time job as a Band 2 Administrator in 2017.

Three years on and Luca is still a valued member of the team! He spends his time doing many different jobs, such as; logging important data, booking staff into sessions, changing passwords, answering telephone/email enquiries, teaching colleagues how to use the systems,  and creating courses.

Denise, a WorkStart Job Coach who used to teach Luca said “I am so proud when I see Luca at work, he has really grown as a person and is doing so well. He has made such progress in the time he has been working there and is a great example of how Orchard Hill College really can change someone’s life!”

Luca said “Orchard Hill College really helped me to succeed. I learnt the skills to prepare me for work and to help me gain the Apprenticeship and a full time job. I would never have had the confidence to go for this without my job coach, and would never of had the qualifications to achieve what I have!”

Outcomes for learners are outstanding, teaching, learning and assessment are excellent and the extremely diverse programmes that meet learners’ individual needs, interests and aspirations, prepare them very well for life after College.
